The four-panel design is two smaller panels at the top and two larger below — symmetrical, proportional, and genuinely versatile. It looks right in Victorian and Edwardian properties because it’s original to them. It also works in modern interiors because the geometry is clean.
Every door in the range is FD30 rated, built around a solid engineered core that can withstand high temperatures and slow fire and smoke from reaching other rooms for at least 30 minutes. Intumescent seals expand under heat to block the gap between door and frame. Glazed options use fire-rated glass held to the same resistance standard as the door. Is it a legal requirement to have internal fire doors?
In specific locations, yes. Fire doors are required in homes with three or more storeys, between a house and an integral garage, in HMOs, and in communal areas of blocks of flats. A building control officer can confirm what applies to your property — or contact our friendly team for guidance.
Do I need FD30 or FD60 fire doors?
FD30 in most homes. It gives 30 minutes of fire resistance — the standard required for domestic applications across the UK. FD60 is for commercial buildings and higher-risk settings, usually identified through a fire risk assessment. If you’re fitting fire doors in a house, HMO, or flat, FD30 is almost certainly what you need.
What era are 4 panel doors?
Victorian and Edwardian, primarily. The symmetrical four-panel layout became a standard feature of British homes in the second half of the 19th century and stayed popular through the early 20th. It’s still the most widely fitted internal door style in the UK, which tells you something about how well the design holds up.
Is BS 8214 still valid?
Yes. BS 8214 is the current standard for installing and maintaining timber fire doors in the UK. It covers gap tolerances, ironmongery requirements, and where self-closing devices are mandatory. Every 4 panel fire door must be fitted in line with BS 8214 to keep its FD30 rating.
