Our FD30 fire doors run from ยฃ126.00 to over ยฃ565.00, all with VAT included. FD30 fire doors save lives by keeping fire and smoke contained to the room of origin โ protecting stairwells, living spaces, and escape routes for at least 30 minutes while evacuation happens. Every door is tested to BS 476 Part 22 or EN 1634-1, certified as a complete assembly: door, frame, seals, and ironmongery together, not just the leaf.
Each door is 44mm thick with a solid engineered core and intumescent strips that expand under heat to seal the gap between door and frame. Check the top edge for a certification label showing the certification number, fire rating, and test standard. BWF-CERTIFIRE and BM TRADA Q-Mark are the schemes to trust. Fully finished FD30 fire doors come in oak, white, and black, ready to hang. Unfinished options can be treated on-site. Contact our team for help finding the right door and confirming your property meets current UK building regulations.
FAQs
What is an FD30 fire door?
An FD30 fire door is a certified door rated to hold back fire and smoke for at least 30 minutes, independently tested to BS 476 Part 22 or EN 1634-1. It’s the standard rating required in most UK homes โ between floors in properties with three or more storeys, between a house and a garage, in HMOs, and along communal escape routes. The protection comes from the complete assembly: the core, the seals, the frame, and the ironmongery all working together.
How much do FD30 fire doors cost?
From ยฃ126.00 for smooth moulded white panel styles to over ยฃ565.00 for premium glazed oak. All prices include VAT with free mainland UK delivery. Add to basket for fast dispatch.
How do I know if my door is FD30?
Check the top edge of the door for a certification label or colour-coded plug. It should show the certification number, the fire rating, and the test standard it was assessed against. BWF-CERTIFIRE and BM TRADA Q-Mark are the main UK certification schemes. No label means no proof โ and no proof means you can’t rely on the door in a fire.
What are the requirements for an FD30 fire door?
44mm thick, solid engineered core, intumescent seals, at least three fire-rated hinges, a fire-rated latch, and a compatible fire-rated frame. Gaps at the sides and top must be 2-4mm; at the bottom, 8-10mm. Get that wrong and the certification is compromised. The complete assembly is what’s certified, not just the door blank.
Where are FD30S doors required?
On escape routes โ hallways, corridors, stairwells โ where smoke resistance must be certified as well as fire resistance. The S means the door has cold smoke seals alongside the standard intumescent strips, so it blocks smoke before temperatures get high enough to trigger the intumescent material.
Is 30-minute fire protection enough?
In most homes, yes. It’s the standard required by UK Building Regulations for domestic properties and gives enough time for safe evacuation in the majority of residential fires. FD60 is for larger commercial buildings and higher-risk locations where fire risk assessments specify a longer containment period.
Can I fit my own fire doors?
You can, but the fitting has to be right. Wrong gap tolerances, wrong ironmongery, too much trimmed off the edges โ all of these void the FD30 certification. The installation standard is BS 8214. If you’re not confident following it precisely, use a qualified installer.
Can you have a 30-minute fire door in a 60-minute wall?
Yes, but the wall’s effective resistance drops to 30 minutes at the door opening. If the full 60-minute rating needs to be maintained throughout the assembly, you need an FD60 door at that point.
